Duties: Supervises and leads a multidisciplinary team in the conduct of risk assessments and simulation model development related to pathways for introduction, emergence, and spread of animal and related public health threats in the U.S.; and statistical and economic analyses of disease control programs.
Provides oversight and guidance in the development and application of new methods to determine cost-effective approaches to disease surveillance and control, in the design and application of pro-active risk assessments to inform policy decisions, and in the development of models and tools designed to assess risks of disease emergence and spread.
Provides technical expertise and review of work accomplished by epidemiologists, economists, scientists and statisticians. Analyzes results and makes technically sound recommendations to APHIS, VS, and international officials upon with policies and standards can be developed, including United States trade policies and emergency management.
Provides leadership in the development of approaches and models for predicting disease emergence and movements. These approaches require the integration of knowledge about a range of variables including: animal disease transmission and spread, ecosystem dynamics, and socioeconomic forces such as trade patterns and movements of people and animals.
