Would you like to work in Anchorage Alaska? Chester Valley Veterinary Hospital is looking for a full or part time associate.
Full disclosure: Our clinic is really fun with a great family vibe. We have good tools, great medicine, fantastic employees, a small parking lot, down to earth blue collar clients(mostly), a boss with a great sense of humor (mostly ?), and an awesome clinic wide sound system that has been known to jam out anything from Johnny cash to the Harry Potter soundtrack. However, Alaska is a truly special place that needs exploration and we thrive on providing a quality of life that supports enjoying life outside of the clinic as well. Our employees and management truly enjoy each other’s company and look forward to our small clinic events such as closing the clinic for a refreshing spa day at allure day spa in luxe of a standard, (sometimes stuffy), Christmas party.
Community service: Chester Valley is a small community clinic that works hard to transcend the typical corporations and actually be apart of the local community. Every quarter we close down the clinic for part of a day and enjoy a community service volunteer project with the local community. This is often a really fun morning of bonding with each other, getting some fresh air out of the clinic, and growing in ourselves about the importance of things outside our smaller, personal, worlds. Please see our website www.healthypetalaska.com for a full list of our community service under “Chester Valley Gives Back”.
Clinic Hours are 7-7 m-f, 9-1 on Saturday. A veterinarian would not be expected to work more than 38 hours per week- figured quarterly. This schedule often works best as 3 days per week and every other Saturday. Schedule is negotiable however, if full time, there are expectations of working until 6 or 7 pm on three days per week as well as every other Saturday. We offer 4 weeks vacation per year to start. The vacation time begins accumulating on your pay stub from day one. 1/2 time or 3/4 time packages also happily available and negotiable.
We do not request a non compete clause for the first 12 months of being at Chester Valley. We do this so that everyone has the freedom to try out the team and the Anchorage community before committing to a non compete.
Base salary negotiable with 20% commission to start. Increase to 22% commission after the first 6 months of meeting base. It is possible to increase to 6 weeks vacation after 2 years working with Chester Valley. Increase in pay and vacation annually will be indicated by production, clientele, staff moral, and teamwork with employees as well as management. CE paid and encouraged - amount allotted negotiable. Money allotted for CE does not go against production base. Chester Valley pays 1/2 of health insurance annually when working full time as well as s 3% marching IRA program.
We do not keep jerk clients. I could phrase this more delicately but really why? We all know what I mean here. If a client makes myself or my employees not want to practice vet medicine, I am very protective of my hard working staff and those clients are out. We do not waste time on people that do not value our hard work, knowledge, or trust us. This policy has allowed our clinic to flourish exponentially due to good moral of the employees. This does not mean we fire every client that has an occasional bad moment, however, it does mean we look at all situations as a whole and make decisions based on keeping moral and quality of care high.
Equipment: digital rads, idexx bloodwork/ urine, vetter cloud computer system, storz otoscope that could evolve to further endoscopy/laparoscopy as interest increased, nomad digital dental rads (required on All dentals), high end IM3 dental equipment, tonopen, and some ortho equipment. We hire out our ultrasounds to a traveling doctor that does excellent work. We do have a small ultrasound that is capable of more simple procedures.
Highly utilized, paid, and trained techs that work hard and will keep you laughing most of the day. You will truly love your office manager. She is the picture of kindness that is the backbone of why this practice is successful. Her kindness, empathy, strength, and lack of judgment is far above most humans. The owner (me) is not perfect, has learned a lot over the 10 years if ownership by learning from mistakes, does not take herself super seriously, and truly cares about her clinic, clients, and staff. This is no large, sterile, corporation. Chester Valley does include the occasional human error found with not having billions of dollars to spend on Human Resources, lawyers, marketing management, internet companies that modify online reviews , etc...
Dermatology and dentistry are my main area of continuing education focus, therefore, tools and knowledge. There is plenty of room in this practice to share this focus or expand into other areas of interest.
We are a two doctor practice and sadly, saying goodbye to our second associate of five years as she embarks on a new life adventure. We are looking to add an associate anytime. We are small in size but mighty in high client case load, surgeries/dentistry, and good humor. Our support staff is extremely knowledgeable, well trained, fun loving, and completely non judgmental or gossip types.
Thank you for any interest!
Shannon Kesting - also known as “captain” because we often like to refer to our clinic as the starship enterprise...because, why not? ?
Doctorate of veterinary medicine and board eligible for the Alaska state boards
