Our Small Animal Rotating Internship is listed on the VIRMP website here: https://www.virmp.org/Program/Detail/12693 This internship’s location is the largest privately owned, small-animal practice in Oklahoma City and one of the largest in the region. We currently employ 19 DVMs (2 Board-Certified Specialists – ABVP Canine & Feline and Surgery) and over 80 lay staff including 20 RVTs. Our 14,000 sqft, 24/7 full-service hospital is equipped to handle all types of cases – routine wellness/vaccines, exotic animals, walk-in patients, emergencies and referrals. In a 24 hour period, our doctors treat anywhere from 90-150 patients.
Services we offer include - routine wellness care, emergency care, Specialty care, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chamber, 24/7 staffed ICU and Isolation Unit, Boarded Surgery Specialist, Boarded ABVP Canine and Feline Specialist, Endoscopy, double-surgery suite, dentistry suite, CT, Ultrasound, In-House Lab machines, digital radiographs, exotic animal ward, physical therapy area with water treadmill and more.
We also have recently developed a Research arm of our hospital to participate in clinical research studies in partnership with faculty researchers. We are currently participating in 2 research studies.
The goal of this Internship is to prepare DVMs to properly diagnose patients using high-quality equipment with Gold Standard Medicine practices and to make sure patients are as pain-free/comfortable as possible while providing excellent client communication. We do pride ourselves on providing pet owners with multiple options based on their financial capabilities and we want to allow our DVMs the opportunity to become confident in their treatment plans to better serve the patient and clients.
Mentorship during this Internship includes - pairing with current DVM mentor to provide personal and professional support, weekly group meetings with Interns and Dr. Neel to discuss cases and go over ways to improve, bi-monthly journal club, monthly on-site CE, monthly/EOM field trips with Interns and other opportunities.
Neel Veterinary Hospital is excited to welcome Interns that are looking for a vast and varied case load while also paying a livable wage - $70,000 for a 12 month period. 55-65 hours per week. NO On-Call! Your schedule will be set each month with a wide variety of rotating shifts (daytime, swing shift and overnights) to make sure that you experience all aspects of the hospital. We look for our Interns to spend 40% of their time in our 3,000 sqft Intensive Care Unit managing critical care cases, 30% of their time working up cases that present throughout their shift and the remaining 30% in surgery assisting with Emergency, soft tissue and orthopedic cases. Collaboration with other DVMs is strongly encouraged. 4-6 DVMs are On-Duty during daytime/Swing shifts and 2 DVMs are On-Duty during Overnight shifts so you will never be alone.
Our Interns will have the opportunity to operate our Vimago CT, have hands-on learning opportunities with ultrasound, become proficient in RECOVER method CPR, exposure to our exotic animal patients with hands-on learning sessions, oversee multiple dental cleanings, assist with spinal surgeries, TPLOs, FHOs, exploratories, C-sections, mass removals, amputations, foreign body removals while in our double surgery suite, assist with multiple scope procedures(Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Rhinoscopy, Bronchoscopy, etc), perform at least 30 spays/neuters, learn how to manage our critical cases in ICU, free monthly CE seminars on-site, and more.
