High Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinary Surgeon

Gulf Coast Humane Society Spay/Neuter Surgery Center is certified by the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance and is currently hiring for an experienced high volume, high quality Spay/Neuter Veterinary Surgeon to join our amazing team. The spay/neuter veterinarian is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the staff and overseeing all medical care and surgeries for the animals receiving services. This position requires surgical proficiency and will be responsible for guaranteeing the safe sterilization of publically owned animals from the community as well as local rescue organizations. A successful candidate will have experience in performing high-volume; high quality spays/neuters following the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance surgical protocols.

In this role you will:

• Perform pre-surgical examinations on all surgical candidates
• Perform at least 30-35 surgical sterilizations per day 
• Examine public animals post-operatively to ensure appropriate healing
• Communicate with clients to discuss potential post-operative complications
• Prescribe appropriate medications for patients with post-operative complications
• Inoculate animals and provide recommendations for follow up care
• Supervise handling and recording of controlled substances by Veterinary Technicians
• Access individual patient issues, and provide appropriate solutions
• medical protocols
• Strive to continually improve and keep current on surgery techniques
• Ensure all clinic staff members are adhering to proper pre-, peri- and post-operative care of patients
• Examine and treat any emergency that may arise in the shelter
• Examine GCHS animals when shelter Doctor is not present. Including but not limited to
• Intake exams before surgery or before MTA
• rechecks of sick animals
• checking files for proper treatment in accordance to shelter doctors protocols
• Assisting with the needs of processing department
• Required Surgical Techniques and skills as taught by the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance including pedicle ties, Millers knots, and scrotal neuters
