Animal Medical Hospital of State College is hiring a diligent and driven Managing Veterinarian / Medical Director. You will be responsible for providing medical leadership for a team of collaborative veterinarians and crafting an environment that fosters both teamwork and quality medicine. You will also partner with the Hospital Manager to ensure the success and growth of the hospital and collaborate with Divisional Leadership to accomplish hospital goals.
Animal Medical Hospital serves Ferguson Township in addition to surrounding townships in Centre County. We provide primary veterinary care including: wellness/preventative care, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ultrasound services, comprehensive dental procedures, and oral surgery. In addition to dogs and cats, we offer services to a variety of exotics including reptiles, avians, pocket pets, rabbits, ferrets, etc.
The ideal candidate possesses a passion for the veterinary field, and previous leadership experience is preferred. Our facility primarily provides general veterinary care to traditional companion animals, but a candidate who specializes in exotics is a plus. We are seeking a candidate that can combine his or her knowledge and skills to grow our practice and enhance our hospital culture with a positive attitude and collaborative work style.
Animal Medical Hospital has: 6 exam rooms • Large, open treatment area with post-operative recovery • Surgery suite • Dental suite • Digital dental radiographs and high-speed dental unit • Ultrasound suite • Radiology suite • In-house lab • In-house pharmacy • Dedicated feline and canine waiting areas and kennels • Avimark veterinary software • IDEXX Reference Lab partnership • Online pharmacy • Online booking.
Your duties will include: coordinating cases to ensure positive outcomes, developing accurate estimates, fostering excellent client communication, establishing hospital protocols, and leading staff members in education and performance.
The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will maintain medical protocols, assure current licensure of all Veterinarians, document required continuing education hours per calendar year and oversee appropriate transfer of medical cases.
Financial Responsibilities – In partnership with the Hospital Manager, the Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director is responsible for the financial performance of the hospital. Responsibilities include:
Preparing operating and capital budgets and meeting budget expectations
In tandem with the Hospital Manager, directing staff and the overall management of the practice, under the direction of NVA Divisional Leadership.
Managing of the hospital’s revenue, expenses and preparing an annual planning matrix.
Ownership for the revenue and success of the practice by monitoring key financial reports.
Team Leadership and Management – As a leader the Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will participate in the recruiting and interviewing process for Veterinarians and support staff members when appropriate. The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will monitor the performance of Associate Veterinarians, prepare their work schedules, and develop compliance protocols. The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will coordinate training of all medical staff including mentorship of new graduates.

The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will partner with the Hospital Manger to drive patient visits and community involvement by championing change and driving innovation. The Managing Veterinarian/Medical Director will monitor client service, marketing and NVA growth initiatives.
